I'm 47 years old, father of two children, aged 10 and 13.
As an owner of a temporal labor agency and self-employed, I'm not the ordinary, traditional, hippy activist that the industry often talks about. The industry will do anything to make you believe we are the scum of the earth, unwashed and unemployed tree-hugging dreamers. Forget all that! The resistance has a much tougher backbone. It's driven by the will and power of ordinary citizens, educated people who are forced into action by the blatant lies of industry and governments in respect to fracking and shalegas development.
I got involved in the protest and grassroot resistance against fracking in 2010 after we learned that the firm Cuadrilla was planning exploratory drilling just 1,5 miles from our home. When the film Gasland was released, we organized screenings to raise awareness amongst local communities. We visited a lot of meetings (Brussels, Balcombe) with other concerned citizens, to share information.
I'm convinced that we desperately need to switch to real clean energy alternatives, thus securing the healthy future of our children and lessen the risks of international conflicts by states waging war on fossile resources.
